Ear candling dates back to when we were nomads, it disappeared for a while in some countries, however, in some tribes, Europe included, it followed down the family line generally on the matriarch side of the family. Traditional Medicine as we know it today not being around, the healer of the tribe/village along with the mothers would either gather reeds, straw or make the ear candles with whatever was available to them. They would ear candle their families, especially around change of seasons or when there were ear, nose or throat problems, such as insects in the ears or the ears felt ‘gluggy’, maybe a smelly discharge, itchy ears, lumps inside the ear, throbbing in the ear and feeling hot, blocked ear, creating hearing loss, dizziness or a sore throat to name just a few of the signs. The Sharman’s of various different tribes used ear candles to clear their head before performing sacred ceremonies. Their belief was it created a relaxed and sacred space for them to hear clearer the messages from Spirit or their Gods. There were/are a few different shapes of ear candles, some are small and tube like, others small or a large cone shape, some really wide at the top others not so wide. It was/is very varied.
