I buy wax direct from a local West Australian Bee Keeper, so I get to choose the type of wax, well...up to a certain point. The bees and mother nature have the biggest say.. EVERYWHERE I GO I AM ASKED : HOW DID YOU COME ACROSS THIS BUSINESS AND WHY DID YOU BUY IT. BELOW IS THE WHY AND IT IS TRUE! As a single mother of 2 children I approached the bank for a small loan to buy a house. Back then it was hard for a single mother to gain a bank loan of any kind. The banks all stated I needed to have a real job, even though I had nice steady little business doing healings, readings, Edu K and Touch For Health. So, cutting the story a bit short, I started working for a large communication company. After a few years of working there I received a HPT (high pitched tone), that is a loud screech from the headphones directly into my left ear. I ripped the headphones off but the damage had been done. I could not lift my head off the pillow for around 4 days after this HPT. From then on any loud sound and I was on the floor, if I could not grab something to hold on to. My head would spin, my stomach would roll and the nausia was overwhelming. 2 weeks later I had to go back to work..mmmm... I discovered I could not travel by bus. How did I find out? Well, as I hopped off the bus first day back to work, I became disorientated and fell as I stepped off. The bus nearly ran over me. The movement of the bus effected me. So, it appeared I had a middle/inner ear issue. Cutting a real long story short, I made the corporate decision to go via my therapy backgroung to heal myself not workers compensation. Anybody following through with workers compensation, I admire and congratulate you. It takes more grit than what I have. One modality I chose was ear candling. I tested many different types and shapes of ear candles. They all worked but I, with my background, wanted a bit more out of an ear candle than what I received. I was moaning about this one day to a therapist friend of mine. She then said... oh, I have just the candle for you. She introduced me to the candle that was used in the clinic where she worked. The candle was a BIG ear candle, conical in shape and it looked like the matriach of all ear candles. Oh my goodness, I said, it is BIG.... As I was getting desperate by now, I gave it a go and guess what.... IT WORKED....it did everything I thought with my back ground, an ear candle should do. What was really interesting, and talk about synergy... after using these candles for a while I thought to myself .. I really do love these candles, if I ever have the opportunity to buy this business I would. The existing owner was not interested in selling, he loved it also, so I forgot about it until about a year later he approached me and asked if I was still interested, YES I replied. About one month after I purchased the business I received a call from a gentleman wanting to place an order and requested an appointment with me at the same time. Unusual I thought, but did not think any more about it until he came to pick up the candles. After introducing himself he asked abruptly if I was looking to change the candle in any way. Strange I thought, 'why would he ask that'? So I answered no, I love the candle the way it is. He appeared to sigh with relief, so I asked him 'is there a problem?'. Well, he said, most people want to change things when they buy a new business, sometimes re-writing the un-writeable. I was quite intrigued by this and asked him to explain what he meant. He told me a little of his story, he is an Engineer, (I didn't ask what kind), had received an ear injury and suffered from sinus. I thought, he's kidding me, but he was so serious. This is me I thought. He explained how he searched all over Australia, just like me, to find a candle with a certain mathematical 'rate of flow', I wasn't looking for a 'rate of flow' though, I was looking for that 'little extra'. Showing my ignorance, I asked him what the rate of flow was! He looked at me blankly and stated, 'you don't know what that is, and you make these candles!'. I explained apologetically, I was a Therapist not an Engineer. Hmmm was the reply. So I asked him again. Could you please explain what a 'rate of flow 'is. He appeared to be a bit impatient with me, but condescended, with a bit of a sigh. I think he thought, oh my goodness, she is making these candles and she does not know what a 'rate of flow' is how can she make a good candle ??!! Using all these 'technical terms' I looked at him blankly and asked if he could use laymens terms. I don't think I can find the word to describe his reaction to this, but gallantly he persisted and using laymens terms he explained a venturi builds up, I asked him what a venturi is, again I received THAT look. Simply put he said, a venturi is the build up of air pressure around the flame, it builds up and travels down the candle, (rate of flow), he used a different name for that, it then flows out of the tappered end of the candle, a different name also, however when it is in the ear it depletes the ear of oxygen then simply put again reverses back on itself up the candle and the name of this is called vacuum. Well I thought there you go!! By this time I had an extensive drawing of how it all works along with a mathematical equation and we had had a cup of tea! Softening a bit more and just chatting in general he explained he was a bit apprehensive about a new owner as they always want to change something and he was concerned that I would attempt to 'improve' the candle and muck it up then he would have to start all over again looking for a good candle. I laughed and said, I also had tested candles from a Therapists point of view and that is why I wanted to buy this business. My testing was by trial and error. I'd buy some candles and use them. I didn't know whether I had enough courage to explain my testing to him, I did and he just mmmmmd again. What I was looking for was a good feeling as well as not crumbling every time there was a loud sound. That to me was good enough, proof in the pudding so to speak. I wondered when he did his testing, so I asked him - oh a couple of years ago, Oh yes I said, do you remember roughly when. Guess what, it was around the same time I was doing my trial and error approach. What a coincidence I said we were both looking for a good candle around the same time, you via mathematics and me via touch and feel and we came to the same candle. I was blown away, he just blankly looked at me. Well, I said out of all the ear candles in Australia you and I tested we both came to the same candle don't you find that facinating? With that he decided it was time to leave, probably inwardly shaking his head, thinking what a silly person and making a mental note to re-test the candle before he used them again. Around 2 weeks later I received an email from him with a nice simple diagram. Thank you Paul. You can now see this on our website on the 'Our Product' page. So the re-testing must have passed his 'rate of flow' and maybe I was not so silly after all!
